Has anyone used the erasers? If so could you help me out and send me in the right direction? What's the best one out there in your opinion? Thank you in advance for any responses.

are you thinking about erasing a whole drive.........or just erase for real files that you delete?

if its about a whole drive........use dban, you will need a floppy or a CD to burn the ISO image and then boot from the floppy or cd, CAREFUL with this stuff

If you are looking to keep cookies and such clean go to download.com and download CCleaner... it is free and simple to use and it keeps your registry clean as well...

Thanks for all the replies fellas. What I was looking to do was erase the entire hard drive before tossing it. Outdated computer, dont use anymore, and just want to have some kind of assurance that all personal info is erased before getting rid of it.

I guess Fdisk can't get no love here, huh? FWIW, it is lightning quick and gets any potential nasties out of the picture, you would need to reinstall OS and key files of course. Depends on how paranoid one is too -- they have DoD type low-level format apps that are extremely thorough but take an hour to wipe per HD on average.

can you erase deleted files and photos easily?

I use PGP to wipe out the free space which is what you are talking about. It keeps the rest of the files intact. Free space is wiped out at a DoD level.
